AET highly recommends always protecting your fiber optic cable's connector ends whenever the end is disconnected from the intended interface. Fiber Optic cable connectors are very sensitive to dust, dirt and can easily be scratched. AET provides all fiber optic cables and patch cables with some form of dust caps. More recent product deliveries are provided with Universal Dust Cap's for 2.5 mm Ferrules with a captive jacket Strap. These dust caps can be ordered directly from FIS using P/N 90011120061.

The 15-meter orange duplex fiber optic cable interfaces between the spherical dipole and the control unit using the type SC connectors. This duplex fiber optic cable is a custom hybrid cable which must be ordered from AET directly. Custom lengths can also be ordered.

An SC/SC duplex adapter is used on the end of the 15-meter duplex fiber cable that must interface with the spherical dipole's optical patch cables' two type SC connectors. This fiber optic SC/SC duplex adapter can be ordered directly from a Molex distributor using Molex P/N 86166-0530.

To provide a method for optical I/O connection through a very small hole, two choices are available; a bare-fiber adapter method (see Application notes), or a small Hole Fiber Optic Kit. The bare-fiber adapter method was the original method for penetrating small holes in shielded walls until the availability of the LC style optical connector. However, the bare-fiber adapter method is still the only method for penetrating very small hole sizes and is suitably reliable providing the connection is not handled frequently.

The Small Hole Fiber Optic Kit consists of a special set of SC to LC singlemode and multimode patch cables, two SC/SC adapters and a new LC/LC adapter. This kit provides for easier installation of fibers through small holes in shielded walls, although it does increase the optical losses to some extent.
