Rechargeable Batteries

The spherical dipole antennas operate on battery power so no metal wires or conductors will interfere with the repeatability and accuracy of the USDS. One or two 6 VDC NiMH battery boards maybe be installed and are designed to install inside the spherical dipole antennas and operate in parallel to provide the power needed for the internal electronics. When two battery boards are installed, they provide double the current capacity for longer operating times. Each battery board supplies in excess of 1000 mAh for extra long operating time during real-world testing applications.

Each Battery Board uses five AAA NiMH cells to supply 6VDC,
1000 mAH , for extra long operating time during real-world
testing applications, and uses a commercial wall-mount
power supply for easy battery recharging.

Each battery board is fully rechargeable while installed inside the spherical dipole, or externally from the sphere, using a standard wall-plug power supply. These battery boards use AAA NiMH batteries which are easily removed and replaced with fresh AAA batteries and can be easily recharged externally from the sphere with standard AAA NiMH battery cell charger. A battery isolation jumper is included on each battery board to prevent battery cell depletion from leakage or long storage. A push button switch on the spher ical dipole allows the batteries in the spherical dipole to be turned on/off, allowing the useful battery life to be extended. When the power is switched 'on', a green LED on the sphere white ring is illuminated.
